Saki is considered a master of the short story and is often compared to O. Henry and Dorothy Parker. His tales feature delicately drawn characters and finely judged narratives. The members of the Wilfred family are skeptical when a visiting professor claims to have taught their cat to talk. They are amazed at the discovery of the truth of his claim. Their amazement gives way to annoyance and then to wrath when the fluffy little cat turns out to be a rude and obnoxious feline who insults their friends and servants. The family finally decides to kill the offending cat. What, however, do they tell the professor? |
