Esther begs Jack to paint the cemetery fence a plum color - a declaration of their having been on site. Jack refuses yet when he receives a “visit” from Aunt Ruby he begins to come to terms with what has been troubling him all along - the idea that Esther most likely will not be there for very much longer.
