Saki is considered a master of the short story and is often compared to O. Henry and Dorothy Parker. His tales feature delicately drawn characters and finely judged narratives. A wet, tired and hungry young man appears at the door one rainy night. Jonathan, the elderly servant with failing eyes and hearing, recognizes him as Master Tom who left in disgrace a few years before. The details of Tom’s offense are cloudy.
