Author's Notes:
River of Tears, is a true story of a grave injustice. In many instances the so-called civilizing of the frontier was filled with uncivilized acts. River Of Tears, is based on eye-witness accounts of some of these acts. A true story, with flexible staging, it is meant to educate. The play received All-State Honors at the Wisconsin High School Forensics Association's Fall Play Festival and was one of the winners of the Wauwatosa Village Playhouse's Annual One-Act Play Writing Competitions. This play is dedicated to the memories of the Sauk and Fox peoples and the suffering they endured in the summer of 1832.

Synopsis
Throughout the history of our country there have been numerous accounts written about the suffering experienced by our Native American Peoples during the settling of this country. “River of Tears” is a dramatic look at the suffering and history of the Sauk and Fox people. It begins with their origins in Canada and culminates with the Blackhawk War of 1832 and the Battle of Bad Axe at Victory, Wisconsin. The events depicting the war and the deaths of many Sauk and Fox braves, women and children at the hands of U.S. troops during the war and at the Battle of Bad Axe, are based on actual eye-witness accounts. The Sauk and Fox people are a spiritual people who believe each person, animal and thing has its own spirit or manito. In keeping with this belief, their story in the play is told through the spirit of the fallen Sauk and Fox people.
