Author's Notes:
The Scottish Play was first performed by Platteville High School, Platteville, Wisconsin in October of 2005. The play was entered in the Wisconsin High School Forensics Association’s Fall Play Festival Competition. The Wisconsin Forensics Association’s Fall Play Festival has four levels of competition, sub-district, district, sectionals and state. An entrant is adjudicated by a panel of three judges at each level and cannot advance to the next highest level unless they receive an advance rating from at least two of the three adjudicators. The 2005 Platteville High School production of The Scottish Play, advanced to the state level of the competition. For its performance at the state competition in November of 2005, the play was awarded an All-State Award.

Yes! Macbeth in a nutshell and it worked. A mixture of acting styles comes together to make a coherent show.

This play has a clever premise in that we actually learn a great deal about Macbeth as we watch this high school troupe attempt to put the work on. We are given a great deal of content and background which is helpful as the actual play unfolds. I enjoyed the significant role that the witches had in unfolding the story.
 
Synopsis
The Scottish Play is an adaptation of Shakespeare’s Macbeth. The play is set on a bare stage where a high school drama group has gathered to work on the set for their upcoming production of Macbeth. The students fall into a trance and begin to act out the Macduff-Macbeth confrontation scene with the witches. With the aid of the stage manager, the student director and Ian--the smartest kid in school, the audience is provided with the details regarding the story of Macbeth.
