Author's Notes:
The title of this play comes from a lyric in the Julia Fordham song, Italy, and the idea came to me while listening to it one day: We can dance in Venice, kiss in Rome. Take a little house and make it home. The idea of being so taken by a place that you''d change your life to be there is where I started from, but that begged the question of what''s wrong with where you are now.

John Shanahan's delightful Dance in Venice offers us another kind of tussle, albeit a much more playfully affectionate one. Gary (Ted Frumkin) and Rachel (Nicole Hatlevig) are a married couple on vacation in Italy. Rachel is trying to coax Gary into staying there for good, and leaving their life in Cambridge, Mass., behind. Brian Kelly is an actor's director, one who knows how to fine-tune the easy rapport that flows between Frumkin and Hatlevig, pulling on each other's emotions to remain in Italy, go home, or settle on the compromise of an extended stay. It's a sunny, feathery romantic piece with yet another "gotcha!" denouement.
 
Synopsis
Rachel and Gary's vacation in Italy is coming to an end--unless Rachel can convince her husband to ditch their old life back home and stay for good.
